2012 Summer Intensive (June 25th – July 21st)

Summer Dance Intensive is a rigorous, professional training program with performances and matriculation opportunity into Deeply Rooted Dance Theater and Deeply Rooted Dance Theater 2. Rooted in African-American traditions of storytelling and universal themes in contemporary modern dance, Chicago’s Deeply Rooted Dance Theater performs world class dance that entertains, inspires, and builds community.

Class Schedule
Students meet Mondays through Fridays from 5:30PM to 11:30 PM and Saturdays from 3PM to 9PM.

Nine technique classes per week, with the dance curriculum consisting of Graham-based and Horton-based modern dance, Ballet, African Pyragramac technique, Contemporary Movement and body conditioning.

Continuum workshops allow participants and the teaching staff to examine and discuss DRP’s mission and values as they relate to the individual and the larger community.

All participants will have the opportunity to learn past and current repertory and perform in the culminating summer concert at the end of the program.

Instructors
Our instructors for the Summer Intensive are led by Nicole Clarke-Springer, Summer Intensive Director, and include Artistic Director Kevin Iega Jeff and Associate Artistic Director Gary Abbott. Company members of Deeply Rooted Dance Theater serve as instructors as well.

Location and Transportation
Deeply Rooted studios, in residence with Ballet Chicago, are located at 17 North State Street, 19th floor, in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant downtown. Chicago is an exciting place to be in the summer with world class museums, festivals and performances that will enrich your stay.

The studios are easily accessible by Chicago’s public transportation system and the Metra rail system. By car, the studios are near major expressways. Street parking is not available, but paid parking in nearby garages is plentiful.

Housing
Deeply Rooted Productions does not provide housing; however, we can assist in the research of housing in the area. All of this information can be found in the orientation manual.

Tuition
Tuition is $1500. A limited number of Merit Scholarships are available.

Upon acceptance into the program, payments can be made in monthly installments.  Please note that Deeply Rooted has a “no refund” policy.  Tuition must be paid in full prior to participation.
